STEP Leadership EAC UPS Executive Training PtD

Since October 2015, the innovative Strategic Training Executive Programme (STEP) has been helping immunisation supply chain managers across the East African Community (EAC) region to hone their skills and provide more effective supply chain leadership.

Africa's health commodity supply chains are stretched to maximum capacity — required to store, track and deliver an ever-expanding number of vaccines, medicines and health products. The most crucial factor for success is the people who manage these systems at all levels, who need to make optimal decisions and develop strong teams capable of delivering sustainable change.

STEP was developed in collaboration with UPS (United Parcel Services) and is similar to an Executive MBA program. It targets supply chain leaders and managers, and senior officials in Ministries of Health or other ministries who are responsible for strategy, policy and decision making.

The program is built around the leadership ("soft skills") competencies detailed in the PtD HSCM Competency Framework for Managers and Leaders. The training follows a 1-5-3 model: one month of distance learning, five days of classroom-based learning, and three months of mentorship.
